Abstract:

This study assessed Enterprise Support Organisations’ (ESOs) impact on Nigerian MSMEs, aiming to identify their roles, evaluate intervention contributions to growth and survival, examine access barriers, and propose policy recommendations. Utilizing a quantitative multiple case study design, data was analyzed from 371 valid responses by supported MSME owners and managers, alongside supplementary qualitative insights from ESO staff. The findings reveal that ESO support significantly enhances MSME growth, productivity, and survival. Specifically, technical assistance, advisory services, and networking drive job creation, revenue growth, and operational efficiency, though contextual factors like accessibility and market conditions moderate these outcomes. Ultimately, ESOs are vital for MSME development, yielding optimal results when support is relevant, accessible, and backed by an enabling environment.
