Abstract:
Kenya’s aviation sector is growing, yet lacks research on how User-Centered Design (UCD), Lean Thinking, and Aviation Standards impact project sustainability. This study investigates these factors using a mixed-methods cross-sectional survey of 248 respondents across 46 projects from key institutions like KAA, KCAA, and Kenya Airways.
Findings show UCD significantly boosts sustainability by improving operations, compliance, and satisfaction. Lean Thinking moderates this, while Aviation Standards mediate the UCD-sustainability relationship and emerge as the strongest predictor of sustainable development.
The study concludes that integrating all three elements creates the best framework for sustainable aviation. Project managers should engage users, apply lean principles, and strictly follow standards. Future research should test this model across different regions and project types.
