Abstract:

Tourism is a major driver of economic and social change in many regions across the world,
particularly in areas with unique natural landscapes. Fjord tourism, which is highly prevalent in
Norway, has significantly contributed to local economies while simultaneously raising concerns
about sustainability, environmental degradation, and cultural preservation. One of Norway’s most
iconic fjords, Geirangerfjord, attracts thousands of tourists annually, thanks to its breathtaking
scenery, UNESCO World Heritage status, and well-developed tourism infrastructure. However,
the increasing number of visitors brings challenges such as environmental stress, overcrowding,
rising costs of living, and shifting socio-economic dynamics in local communities (Viken &
Aarsaether, 2013).
